But what else do you need to know to grow championship quality tomatoes. We finish our conversation about that and meander through other topics along the garden path as Dennis Stephens joins me for this episode.

This week things have been getting increasingly dry inside the garden gates, only a few very brief showers have managed to fall and most of our region is about 9″ below normal for rainfall. I know that sounds like a small deficit to those suffering from “the worst drought in 104 years” down in the Southeast US, but it is bad enough for us. The drying conditions and hot temperatures have us focusing on ways to use and to maximize water efficiency. This week during his visit Monty Justice spoke with us about mulch…what kind to use, how to use it and things to be careful of if you are using mulch around your plants.

Award Winning Farm Broadcaster, Jeff Nalley, sat down recently with Joe Dedman, Certified Crop Advisor with Monty’s Plant Food Company to talk about issues facing farmers. The drought that is spreading from the SE into the Midwest was tops on their mind, as was the rising cost of farm inputs. Through the course of the conversation Nalley used his journalistic skills to learn what Monty’s Unique Brand of Foliar Plant Food can do, as a management tool on your farm.
Is $6-$9 per acre worth it to optimize your crop’s production, even during a drought? If so, listen to what these two veterans have to say. Or click on the link to the left to Visit our Agricultural Web Site.
